QPTV Wins the Alliance for Community Media’s 2011 National Hometown Video Competition for Two Groundbreaking Programs

Queens Public Television is proud to announce that two of its productions have received top honors from the Alliance for Community Media’s National Hometown Video Competition.   QUEENS UPDATE: A Live Town Hall Meeting – Gay in America took top honors in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and   Transgender (GLBT) Programming category for professional productions. The second program, QUEENS PERSPECTIVES:    Stop Teen Violence Summit took first place honors in the professional category for Empowerment programming.               QUEENS UPDATE: A Live Town Hall Meeting – Gay in America focused on the issues facing the Gay community. The GLBT community has been struggling to acquire the same civil rights that are afforded to  all  Americans.  Many  Gays  and  Lesbians proudly serve in the armed services, defending the very Constitutional rights that they are then denied when they return home.  With the recent passing of the Marriage Equality Bill by New York State, QPTV has proven, once again, that we are on the leading edge of the issues facing our community. Daniel J. Leone, QPTV’s Executive Director, was the Executive Producer of the program along with Associate Producers Roslyn Nieves, Community Development Manager, and Clifford Jacobs, Deputy Executive Director.   QUEENS PERSPECTIVES: Stop Teen Violence Summit addressed the issue of inner city teen violence, which has stunted the growth of many communities. Executive Producer Daniel  J.  Leone and Line Producer John Crow facilitated the discussion  of  this  timely  issue.  Having  provided  Queens  residents with a forum enabled  the  community  to  outline  a  prescription for its own healing. The Hometown Video Awards Dinner will be held on Friday, July 29 at the JW Marriott in Tucson, AZ, during the Alliance  for  Community  Media  Conference  and  Exhibition. Conference  information and registration is available at   Watch these award winning programs on  QPTV:  The  most  diverse television for the most diverse place on earth.
